I saw the second performance of the new Paris Juive and was disappointed on arrival at the Bastille that Shicoff had cancelled to be replaced by Chris Merritt. Frankly he was on very poor form and was booed after the Act IV aria and at the end of the performance. The production appeared to be set in an abstract railway station like set - quite bizarre!!!! Interestingly I heard some music previously deleted, especially the Eudoxie/Rachel duets. Alas no sign of the ballet. The best singing came from the divine Annick Massis on top form. Overall though a disappointing revival
